Hello there! My name is Katrina Lambert, I am a second-year college student, born New Englander, and self-proclaimed food addict.
I have lived with food allergies my whole life, and while most people might assume that would make loving food tough, it has actually done just the opposite. Growing up with food allergies has made me give my food a lot of thought and get creative when it comes to my creations.
I’m allergic to: milk, eggs, peanuts, treenuts, soy, and avocado (and I use to be allergic to lemon, coconut, and blackberries, but thankfully outgrew those).
When someone hears my list of food allergies, I often get a pitied response of how hard it must be to live without chocolate or guacamole. But to me, I’ve never known it any other way! I have spent my whole life reading ingredients and allergy warnings, and trying to find ways to modify traditional recipes to be “Katrina-safe.”
For a long time, it felt like my family and I were all alone on this journey trying to navigate how to eat around food allergies, but as I’ve grown up, I’ve come in contact with many people with dietary restrictions as well. So foremost, this blog is for all of us — allergy kids, parents, adults, teens, coaches, teachers — who want to learn how to enjoy food as much as I do.
Secondly, this blog is for everyone else! These recipes taste good whether or not you know what real butter tastes like. There are also some great healthy alternatives here to your traditional meals.
So I invite you all along this journey with me, navigating through life with food allergies.
“People who love to eat are always the best people.”
